Taiwan

A common question when one plans for Taiwan trip is where should I go if I only have 5 to 7 days?  Should you cover east or west side of Taipei?  Or just Taipei itself?

If you are a first timer to Taipei:  Just Taipei-DanShui-Jiufeng-Shifen-Yeliu-Taipei  (Optional: KeeLong, Beitou, Yang Ming Shan)

If you have been to Taipei a couple of times and wants to see more "rural" areas.  You should go down south of Taipei.

If you have about 10 days, do a round trip (clockwise or anitclockwise) from Taipei back to Taipei.

Must try their 星宝葱达人 (三星葱 that makes it different). Authentic Yilan scallion biscuit.


柯氏葱油饼 is actually very famous there but I find it overhyped. It's more like a copy of Hualien famous 炸蛋葱油饼 but still a far cry of it. I would skip this and go straight to Hualien to try the actual thing.

Transport

Taipei town to Jiaoxi:
It's faster to take a bus from Taipei bus station (at Taipei main station beside Qsquare mall). Bus ticket can be bought at level 1. No prebooking needed, frequency is high. Bus ride about 50min.

Taipei airport to Jiaoxi:
Direct bus at the airport bus station to Jiaoxi. Ride take about an hour.

Taipei airport to Taichung:
It's faster and easier to take bus as compared to HSR. Bus station is located at the airport basement 1. Take Ubus to Chao ma (朝马) and at the bus station, just take taxi/uber to your hotel (10 to 15 min ride). It's more troublesome to take HSR as you will need to take the airport train to the HSR station and change to HSR train, the waiting and travelling time will end up same or even more than taking bus.

Taxi driver at Yilan or Hualien if you need.  If not, just flag down any taxi.

  福建 厦门 中山步行街 Zhong shan pedestrian street is the shopping belt in Xiamen. 南普陀寺 apart from being a religious place,  it's famous for its vegetarian meal and biscuit 鼓浪屿 no car island and historical buildings/ architecture with beautiful beaches 厦门中山路 云水瑶古城 small water mill old town 客家 田螺坑土楼 （四菜一汤） Less commercialised than 永定土楼 and nicer landscape.
